Abstract
So far, accident prevention anticipation has been carried out by looking at historical accident data, while near-miss incidents are often overlooked and considered ordinary occurrences. The low level of traffic awareness among road users keeps the traffic accident rate high. This research was conducted at the Sijenjang Four-Way Intersection in Jambi City. The purpose of this study is to identify traffic conflicts occurring at the research location and to seek alternative solutions using the Traffic Conflict Technique (TCT). This study employs the Traffic Conflict Technique (TCT), an observational method that identifies near-miss accidents. This method is also utilized to improve traffic safety. The results of this study indicate a total of 280 conflict cases. Based on the TCT analysis, the potential accident type is categorized as a Serious Conflict, with the shortest Time to Accident (TA) being 0.10 seconds and the longest being 0.96 seconds. The highest frequency of conflicts occurred at a speed of 15 km/h with a conflict distance of 2 meters, while 44 conflicts occurred at a speed of 30 km/h with a distance of 3 meters. Motorcycles were the vehicle type most frequently involved in conflicts, accounting for 155 out of the 280 incidents. Meanwhile, the most common type of conflict was sudden acceleration. Alternative solutions proposed for the Sijenjang intersection include installing speed limit signs to encourage drivers to reduce their speed, conducting public socialization to raise awareness regarding the importance of safety, and coordinating with local authorities to impose penalties on traffic light violators to create a deterrent effect.
